Giving
Since Thanksgiving, I’ve been healing, moving more slowly than usual, watching the world through a quieter lens. One morning, snowflakes as big as cotton drifted past my window, soft and bright, and for a breath it felt as though I’d slipped inside a snow globe—one of those tiny enchanted worlds where time pauses, light scatters, and everything shimmers with possibility. That moment reminded me what this season is truly about: giving, in all its forms, seen and unseen.
Giving is not always grand.
Often it’s anonymous, almost invisible.
A door held open.
A hand steadying someone who thinks no one sees them wobble.
A smile traded with a stranger that shifts the trajectory of a day.
A shared story.
A shared silence.
A listening ear.
A warm meal.
A soft word.
A truth spoken gently.
A laugh given freely.
A burden carried alongside another without ever naming it.
We give through our time, our presence, our patience.
We give through forgiveness, even when no one knows it happened.
We give through understanding—especially when it’s easier not to.
We give by stepping back so someone else can step forward.
We give by stepping forward when someone else can’t.
We give when we teach, when we comfort, when we create room for others to breathe.
We give when we choose empathy over judgment.
We give when we choose hope over cynicism.
And often, we give simply by showing up with sincerity in a world that desperately needs it.
As snow floated past my window, I remembered the mountains I once climbed as a ski, snowboard, and telemark instructor - the exhilaration, the strength, the freedom of movement. And I remembered the years when injury changed what my body could do. Some abilities slipped away; others rose in their place. Life reshapes us, again and again, teaching that giving isn’t only what we offer outwardly, but also the grace we offer inwardly as we evolve.
This season, I’m grateful for every form of giving I’ve witnessed - quiet, radiant, humble.
For strangers whose small kindnesses gleam like winter light.
For friends who show up without fanfare.
For teachers who speak through example.
For elders whose endurance cleared paths for us.
For animals who offer trust without hesitation.
For children who give wonder effortlessly.
For people that see thier own dissolution the true conduit to Divinity.
For men who lift up woman up.
For the countless unseen hands that make our lives possible.
Giving is the golden thread running through this season- through every sparkling snowflake, every shared moment, every gentle act that reminds us we belong to one another.
So as the holidays unfold, may we give in ways that matter.
May we give without expectation.
May we give with sincerity, with warmth, with courage.
May we give in ways that ripple far beyond our knowing.
Because sometimes the smallest act becomes someone else’s miracle.
